NEW PERSPECTIVES ON CHARLES DICKENS

Essays In Memory of David Paroissien

New Perspectives on Charles Dickens. Essays In Memory of David Paroissien

This volume is devoted to David Paroissien (1939-2021). A renowned and enthusiastic Dickens scholar, Professor Paroissien taught at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, from 1968 to 2001. He returned to his native England as Emeritus Professor and Professorial Research Fellow at the University of Buckingham (UK). His primary field of research was Charles Dickens, from the important critical edition of Pictures from Italy (1973) to his “Companions” to Oliver Twist and Great Expectations; from the general Companion to Charles Dickens, to his Garland bibliography of Oliver Twist and his Penguin Classics edition of Edwin Drood. These works, alongside his numerous articles and contributions in journals and collected editions, testify to a profound knowledge of the Dickens world. He was also the general editor of Dickens Quarterly from March 1984 to December 2019 having edited the journal under its old title, Dickens Studies Newsletter, since March 1983. His editorial role spanned forty years, a period during which Professor Paroissien never failed to have a major role in contributing to the growth of Dickens studies all over the world.
